Coochie Cure #2: Menstrual Cramps - Magnesium

OK, menstrual cramps may not be a “coochie issue,” per se.  But it’s all related…

Anyway, this is just a quick post to share with you another healing tip my friendly health food store associate shared with me.

I walked in the other week, doubled over with very uncomfortable menstrual cramps.  I wasn’t even looking for a cure, because I know this only happens when I eat salty foods before that time of the month.  I suffer for the first two days of my period.  Big deal.  I’m used to it.

My husband, grateful that this woman had helped me cure a recent bladder infection, is the one who asked her if she could recommend anything for the cramps.

She answered, “Of course, magnesium,” and went straight to the shelves.

I was shocked, and skeptical.  She told me to pour this little packet of Peter Gillham’s Natural Calm Anti-Stress Drink magnesium supplement into a glass of warm water, and assured me I should feel relief in no time.

She was right.  Maybe it was the warmth of the water…but I could swear I’ve tried drinking hot tea to soothe cramps, with little or no relief.

This stuff (or at least I think it was this stuff) really had me feeling great within 15 minutes.  And I figure I could probably use a little extra magnesium in my diet anyway.

Other natural remedies I’ve used for menstrual cramps include:

  1. Enemas - Don’t get me started talking about the cleansing, healing power of an enema.  Maybe in another post…
  2. Hot water bottles - Or warm rice bags
  3. Avoiding salty or heavy food the week or so prior - I know my body.  My craving for salty food is UNBELIEVABLE just before my period.  If I avoid it, though, I have a much easier time.  If I give in, I have hell to pay.

Any natural menstrual cures you’d like to share?  Add a comment.
